Course Style - Face-to-Face or Virtual sessions via ZOOM Are you the existing or aspiring data champion or privacy champion in your organisation? Do you want to understand the practical aspects of data protection legislation? If so, take this one-day course. It’s designed to provide you with an understanding of data protection obligations and tasks to assist with your role as a data champion. You’ll learn how to complete some of the tasks dictated by legislation, like a Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) or a Record of Processing Activities (ROPA). You’ll be able to confidently implement data protection policies and procedures, safeguard your organisation’s sensitive information, and remediate potential threats and risks. This course is also interactive, so you will be encouraged to ask questions throughout and can share your real-world experiences with other attendees, discussing issues and ideas that will help them in their roles. You’ll also discuss real-life practice scenarios to support your learning, providing a hands-on approach. Learning Outcomes: • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the current regulatory landscape, including the relevant UK legislation (EU/UK GDPR, DPA2018, PECR. • Articulate the key data protection principles, their relevance in practice, and how to demonstrate compliance. • Be familiar with the creation and maintenance of accountability documentation, including Records of Processing Activities, Data Protection Impact Assessments, and more. • Master how to handle security incidents and data breaches, appropriate responses, and statutory reporting. • Understand how to foster a data-driven culture by implementing data protection by design and default. • Be able to explain key terminology and definitions contained in the legislation. • Confidently identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor risk. • Gain a thorough understanding of the key considerations for sharing/transferring data. • Develop an understanding of the risks of non-compliance and the potential enforcement action.
