Learning Outcomes: • Understand the history of data protection in the UK, and data subject rights. • Gain knowledge in what the GDPR sets out about International Data Transfers. • Become familiar with principles of data protection, including the accountability principle, the applicable terminology, and the lawful bases for processing personal data as set out in the GDPR. • Learn about Independent Supervisory Authorities (ISAs) and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), as well as the concepts of breaches, enforcement, and liability in data protection. • Understand the obligations of various data protection roles, such as controllers, joint controllers, and data processors. • Gain an understanding in the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive).
